Our journey began in 2017 as The Empowerment Center, where we helped nonprofits get organized, find funders, and submit proposals. Over time, we realized that our clients needed more than grant writing they needed data- informed strategies, stronger systems, and evidence-based approaches to
drive lasting impact.
That insight inspired the evolution of GrantSmarts Consulting. Today, we offer smart, strategic grant consulting and funder-aligned, impact-focused grant services that help nonprofits develop a sustainable grants plan. Samoine Flanagan, our Founder and CEO, brings over a decade of hands-on nonprofit experience to the work she does every day. With a degree from Cleveland State University and a career spent advising some of Ohio’s largest nonprofits, Samoine has developed a deep passion for helping grassroots organizations grow with strategy, clarity, and purpose.
She’s worked across all areas of nonprofit growth—from assessments and evaluation to research and writing—and is known for her practical tools, warm leadership, and tireless commitment to equity and impact. When she’s not empowering clients, you’ll find Samoine spending time with her family.
Sam joined Grant Smarts Consulting in January, bringing valuable grant writing experience from his time at the Lorain Public Library and Sisters of Charity Health System. He is especially passionate about supporting human service and arts organizations, where he enjoys helping missions come to life through strategic funding.
BIO – Anne joined Grant Smarts Consulting in April, bringing a strong background in administrative support from her work with several corporations across the Chicago area. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for visual design, she helps ensure TEC’s projects remain organized, polished, and presentation-ready. Anne also supports client outreach and helps keep communication flowing smoothly across the team and with partners
